Banks describes Silverman's "narrative sequencing" as a tool for building knowledge through story telling. Narrative sequencing is particularly influential because, to cite Reverend M., "Black folks relate to stories...It's part of our heritage." Inherent to this process is identification, in which the story teller must not only present a story but bring themselves to the story, in order to build relationships with the audience.
